This 1909 photo by Gertrude Bell was taken at Mor Cyriacus Church at Arnas in Tur Abdin in southeast Turkey. The image shows a cluster of three excedra in the south court of the church. Two of the arches have carved moldings.Mor Cyriacus is one of a number of Syriac Christian churches dating from the 4th-6th century AD. Many have unique architectural features combining Late Roman building methods with Byzantine elements.Gertrude

detail in 1909, documenting them with photography and extensive notes
