This overhead satellite image shows the Roman fort site of Soura, located on the eastern (left) bank of the Euphrates River at the modern town of Souriya. Arrows indicate the area of the fort, which shows much of its surrounding wall but few other surface features.
This Euphrates fort lay at the northern end of the Strata Diocletiana, a series of Roman forts connected by a road that comprised the 3rd-4th century limes or frontier on the edge of the Syrian desert.
