Syracuse: Map of Greek and Roman sites

Syracuse: Map of Greek and Roman sites (Athena Review Image Archive)

Syracuse was founded in 733-4 BC by Greek settlers from Corinth and Tenea. The city prospered and was allied with Sparta and Corinth. By the 7th - 6th century  BC  it became the most powerful city in Magna Grecia in the Mediterranean.

This map covers both the overall town and the archaeological zone. It includes Greek and Roman theaters, the agora, the huge Hellenistic altar of Hieron II, various temples including those of Demeter, Apollo, and Archimedes, and two catacombs.
