The well-preserved Doric Temple of Concordia, built in 440-430 BC, measures 17 by 39.5 m in area, with the columns six meters high. It is of hexastyle construction (six columns in width), and thirteen columns in length. The cella or interior shrine room measures 28.5 by 9.5 meters in area.
The temple was named after the Roman goddess Concordia, based on a Latin inscription found nearby (which, however, is likely unrelated to the temple).
In the sixth century AD, the temple was converted into a Christian basilica dedicated to Sts. Peter and Paul. Restoration to its ancient Greek form began in the late 18th century.
