The Arch of Drusus was built as part of the aqueduct system serving the Baths of Caracalla.In this 1756 drawing by Piranesi, a section of the water conduit, called a spicum (A), is shown over the arch, which lies at the start of the Appian Way. At left and right (B,C) are remains of the lower arches of the aqueduct. |
