Rome: Temple of Antoninus and Faustina (photo: Athena Review 2001)
The temple, located in the Forum, dates from the reign of Antoninus Pius (AD 138-161) and was dedicated by him and his wife, the empress Faustina. The rather steep stairwell and surrounding foundations were buried until Forum excavations uncovered them in the 1860s.
