Rome: The Forum of Augustus (Piranesi 1746)
This 1746 drawing of the Forum of Augustus by Piranesi shows, at left, the three remaining columns of the Temple of Mars Ultor, with their Corinthian capitals. The ground level is shown to be relatively high in the image, as no substantial excavations had yet occurred here.
A lintel fragment at lower right bears an inscription.
