This 1846 calotype print by Rev. Calvert Richard Jones is one of the earliest images known of the Colosseum, taken from the area of the Arch of Constantine at the southern end of the Forum.
The Colosseum was built during the reigns of Titus and Domitian, in the late 1st century AD, and completed in AD 81-82.
