The triple arch of Severus, 21 meters high and 23 meters wide, was erected in AD 203 on the 10th anniversary of the reign of Septimius Severus. It honors the military campaigns in Parthia of his two sons, Caracalla and Geta.
The entire arch is coated in marble. Since 1988, it has been undergoing periodic restoration.
