The House of Cupid and Psyche dates to the 2nd century AD, and was rebuilt several times through the mid-4th century. It is constructed of opus mixtum and opus latericium. Several shops were attached on the west side. The House contains floor mosaics of the highest quality. A statue of Cupid and Psyche, which stood on a pedestal in the center of a bedroom or cubiculum (room E), gave the house its name when it was first excavated in 1938.. |
