Ostia: Mythological Painting, Building of the Charioteers (photo: Athena Review 2001) | |

The
Building of the Charioteers is adjacent to the Baths of the Seven
Sages. It was built during the first years of the reign of Antoninus
Pius (ca. 140 AD).
This
image shows a painting in the fourth style with a mythologial scene in
a stage-like, architectonic setting, with gralands. The scene is quite
similar to those of some fourth style paintings in Pompeii and
Herculaneum, even though it must postdate them by at least 60-70 years.
