Built by Hadrian and Antoninus Pius and opened in AD 139, the Bath of Neptune  complex (67 x 67 meters in area) in Ostia is famous for its black and white Frigidarium mosaics related to Neptune. It also contains mosaics of Early Christian symbols.

The baths complex was first excavated in 1888 by Lanciani, and later by Vaglieri in 1909 and 1910.
