Built by Hadrian and Antoninus Pius and opened in AD 139, the Bath of Neptune  complex (67 x 67 meters in area) is famous for its black and white mosaics related to Neptune. It was first excavated in 1888 by Lanciani, and later by Vaglieri in 1909 and 1910.

This view shows the central mosaic of Frigidarium 4, with a scene of Neptune riding a four-horse chariot or quadriga, with hippocampi or sea horses.

Beyond is a mosaic floor in Frigidarium 5, with two columns at upper right.
