Pompeii: Temple of Isis, fresco of priest finial

Pompeii: Temple of Isis, fresco of priest finial (Mus.Arch Naples; photo: Athena Review)

The Temple of Isis, rebuilt between AD 62 and 79, contained numerus paintings in the 4th style.  These include fanciful landscapes with villas, temples, and exotic plants and animals.

This 4th style painting from the Temple portrays a priest-like, gold on white finial on top of a foliated staff. This is a baroque decorative element typical of the 4th style, possibly representing a priest of the cult of Isis.
