The
oecus was commonly used as a banqueting hall.Themes related to
banqueting may be expressed in this third style mural painting in the
oecus at the House of the Wooden Partition. The vertical band of
figures painted on a red background shows a series of heads or tragic
masks. These may pertain to Bacchanalian themes, closely related to the
grape arbor or vinyard motifs painted alongside in the oecus. |
