Petra: Qasr el Bint Faroun, Temple of  Dushara

Petra: Qasr el Bint Faroun (Bell Archive A-417)

Petra is located in southwestern Jordan. The site represents a unique complex of ancient temples and tombs carved into the sides of cliffs, dating from the Nabataean, Late Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods.

This photo by Gertrude Bell from March, 1900 shows the Qasr el Bint Far'oun  ("Palace of the Pharoah's Daughter"), an early 1st century AD Nabataean temple of the god Dushara. It is located on the western end of the colonnaded street, next to the Triumphal Arch. The photo, viewed from the east, shows traces of carving on exterior pilasters.

The Gertrude Bell Archive is at Newcastle University.
