Herod`s
gate, shown here in an 1899 photo by Gertrude Bell, is along the
northern wall, near the northeastern corner of the ancient city. The
image shows at lower right a section of the huge stone blocks used in the ancient
wall.
The Gertrude Bell photo archive is at Newcastle University in England.
