This
1862 photo by Francis Frith shows a view along the eastern wall toward
the Dome of the Rock (Qubbet es Sakhra), the central mosque on the
Temple Mount (Haram ash Sharif). First built in AD 693 by the Ommiad
Caliph, Abd al- Malik, the mosque has been restored many times
