	Of many substantial Roman ruins remaining from Roman Arles or Arelate, the most intact is the Roman amphitheater, located near the center of the city. This massive vaulted arena, the largest north of Italy, is still used today for public entertainment. Built between the reigns of Augustus and Galba (16 BC- AD 68), the amphitheater at Arles measures 136 by 107 meters, and could seat up to 25,000 spectators.
