Philae: View of Temple of Isis from north (1849 photo)    .

Temple of Isis on Philae viewed from north (photo: Maxime du Camp 1849).

The main temple complex at Philae was devoted to the goddess Isis, a major figure in the Egyptian pantheon, whose influence was great during the Ptolemaic and early Roman eras. The temple was  begun in the reign of Ptolemy II Philadelphus (285-246 BC), and was rebuilt in the Roman period.

This early calotype, taken by Maxime du Camp in 1849, shows part of the Temple of Isis  viewed from the north.
