Deir el-Medina: necropolis
. View of necropolis at Deir el-Medina. The necropolis at Deir el-Medina was used by many generations of working familes during the 18th-20th Dynasty occupation of the village. The necropolis consisted of tombs cut into the hillsides and cliff faces next to the village, near the temple complex. The tomb entrances were marked by small pyramids. Within each entrance, at ground level, was a small mortuary chapel for the deceased. Their coffins were placed in tombs or burial chambers below, approached by tunnels. |
