Philae: Painted column capitals (German Exped. 1843-4)
. Painted column capitals at Philae (Denkmaler v.1, 1849) . This lithograph from the German Expedition of 1843-4 shows original colors painted on the capitals at the Ptolemaic Temple of Isis at Philae. Faces of Isis are shown at top left, while at top right are faces of the fertility god Bes. All of the examples represent dominant plant motifs including the papyrus. . |
