These
fibulae from 6th century burials at Giberville and
St-Martin-de-Fontenay are made of cast gilded silver, inlaid with
garnets in cloisonne. The upper fibula has three claw-like segments
with indentations attached to the three outer garnet compartments,
around a larger central garnet.In the fibula at bottom, a wheel-like effect has been created, with four small openings between four outer garnets and a central green stone.Giberville is located 2 miles east of Caen, on the east bank of the Orne River.
