St-Aubin-sur-Mer: Mother goddess statue  (Caen Mus.Normandie; photo Athena Review 2013)

This limestone statue, found in fragments at the bottom of an ancient well in Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer in 1943, portrays the Gallic Mother Goddess. She is traditionally shown seated in a chair with a child standing at either side.

In this case, she is portrayed wearing a diadem, with a torc around her neck, and two brooches (fibulae). The statue dates from the 1st century BC.
