	The Antonine Wall, built  in AD 142-155 during the reign of the Roman emperor Antoninus Pius, stretched  across southern Scotland and formed the northermost frontier of the Roman Empire. The Wall was built of turf laid over a stone foundation. After only a few decades, the Antonine Wall was abandoned, as the Roman Legions pulled the frontier back south to Hadrian's Wall . This surviving portion of the stone footing of the Antonine Wall is located in Hillfoot cemetery, about 1 mile from the Roman fort at Bearsden near Glasgow. It is one of two major sections of the Wall footing now exposed in the cemetery.
