Baalbek, Temple of Bacchus, viewed from southeast (photo 1890)

Baalbek, Temple of Bacchus from southeast (photo: Blatchford 1890)

This 1890 photo by Blatchford shows views the Temple of Bacchus at Baalbek from the southeast, with the east wall at left and the south wall seen at right.

The temple peristyle had forty-two unfluted Corinthian columns of which nineteen still remain, flanking the well-preserved exterior walls  Unlike the north side where most columns are still standing, the south side has only a few column remnants. At far right are columns of the entrance portico.
