Autun: Section of Gallo-Roman wall (photo Athena Review 2012)
This view shows a small section of the Gallo-Roman wall, built around ancient Augustodunum in the 2nd-3rd centuries AD. These walls and ramparts were rebuilt in the Middle Ages, and survived in large part though the 16th century.
This fragment of the ancient wall lies near the Gallo-Roman theater.
