Ulemosaurus svijagensis skull

Skull of Ulemosaurus svijagensis (after   )

Ulemosaurus svijagensis was a dinocephalian therapsid living in the Middle Permain period in hte East European Platform of Russia. Several partial skeletons and skulls have been found at Isheevo in Russian Tatarstan (Riabinin 1938). It belongs to the family Tapinocephalinae, comprising large herbivores.

Dense skull bones of Ulemosaurus up to 10 cm thick may be related to head-butting behavior. It has advanced traits similar to those of the genus Moschops from South Africa, but lived slightly earlier. This shows that both Moschops and  the Tapinocephalidae had fully developed by the early Capitanian stage at the end of the Middle Permian.
