Clamorosaurus borealis skull

Clamorosaurus borealis skull (from.)

Clamorosaurus borealis  was a Permian amphibian found in western Russia dating from about 272.5 million years ago, during the Ufimian interval of the Permian.

It was discovered in the Inta Area of the Komi Republic in European Russia, and classified in 1983 by Gubin as an amphibian in the order Temnospondyli, and the     family Eryopidae, related to Eryops in South Africa.

The wide, armored skull of Clamorosaurus in the figure is viewed fron the top, showing the dermal scales on its head.   The spaces in the interpterygoid bone of Clamorosaurus were rounded at the front, and the external nares or nostril openings were large. Both of these characteristics are features of all members of Eryopidae.     .
