Selinunte: Temple G (1880s photo)

Selinunte: Temple G  (photo: Sommers 1880s)

This early photo of  the Temple of Apollo (Temple G) at Selinunte was taken in the 1880s by the German photographer Giorgio Sommers, active in the 1850s-1880s. Besides producing many photos in Sicily, Sommers is also known for his many classic photos taken at Pompeii.

The photo shows the near-total damage caused to this temple, as well as the others at Selinunte, by earthquakes which occurred by the 5th century AD.
