Selinunte: Temple C plan

Selinunte: Plan of Temple C (Athena Review Image Archive)

Located on the highest part of the Acropolis at Selinunte, Temple C is a Doric temple from the Archaic period, dedicated to Apollo. It is six columns wide (hexastyle) by 17 columns long, each column 2 meters in diameter. Its stylobate (platform holding the columns) measures 24 x 64 meters in area.

The cella structure included a pronaos or porch; a long and narrow naos or cella, the main sanctuary room; and an adyton or storage room behind the cella. The early date of the building (600-525 BC) is attested by its elongated plan and monolithic columns employed on the south and east sides.
