The Temple of Herakles was built ca. 470-460 BC. It measures 67 x 25.3 meters in area, with a ground plan of 6 x 15 Doric columns. The columns are relatively high, with wide Doric capitals.

The cella has both pronaos and opysthodomus, located over a three-step basement. It was the first of several Agrigento temples to have of pylons inserted between the pronaos and cella, containing a staircase leading to the roof.   On the eastern side are remains of the large altar.
