Agrigento: Statue of young soldier (Mus.Agrigento; photo Athena Review 2004)

This well-preserved marble kouros or sculpture of an athletic young man was discovered in 1897 in a cistern in the Rupe Atenea in Agrigento.

It  represents the transition from the Late Archaic to Early Classical styles, comparable to the Kritios Boy (490-480 BC) in the Acropolis Museum in Athens. The statue is dated to 480 BC.
