Agrigento: Red-figure lekythos, Nikon Painter (Mus.Agrigento; photo Athena Review 2004)

This Attic red-figure lekythos by the Nikon Painter shows a sacrificial procession with two women, the younger dressed in a peplon and holding a basket and a pitcher, being followed by an older female dressed in a chiton and himation robe.

The lekythos is a tall, slender jar with a single handle, used for ceremonial libations. This vessel (R 173)  is dated at 470 BC.
