Agrigento: Red figure krater (490-500 BC)

Agrigento: Red-figure krater, Painter of Makron (Mus.Agrigento; photo Athena Review 2004)

This Attic red-figure krater or hydria is in the style of the Painter of Makron. It shows a funerary scene with two women and a man. The woman on the right is identified as the grieving widow, and the younger woman at left portrays the goddess Hecate.

The jar, dated at 490-500 BC, comes from Burial 3 at the Necropolis of Monte Adranone, Sambuca di Sicilia.
