Agrigento: Head of female offeratory figurine  (335-300 BC)



Agrigento: terracotta female figurine (Mus.Agrigento; photo Athena Review 2004)


This female figurine head (AG 2086) was found in the Early Hellenistic Temple of Zeus near the city wall of Agrigento. It was one of several similar figurines used as offeratory vessels, with remnants of a handle and spout behind the head.

The figurine dates from the period 335-300 BC.
