Agrigento: Archaic female figurine head (Mus.Agrigento; photo Athena Review 2004)


This terracotta figurine head of a woman has a raised headdress (polos) which is associated with the votive cult of the Underworld Deities (Demeter and Persephone). It was found in the Bouletarion at Agrigento. 

The figurine dates from the Archaic period, in  the 6th century BC.
