Agrigento: Terracotta female mask (Mus.Agrigento; photo Athena Review 2004)


This terracotta female mask dates from the fifth century BC. It was found in the sanctuary of the Underworld Divinities (Demeter and Persephone).

The mask (S 395) represents a type with an arching diadem, pierced at the center for the insertion of a crown.
