Agrigento: Berlin Painter, bowl with athletes (Mus.Agrigento; photo Athena Review 2004)

On this Attic red figure bowl (choe) decorated by the Berlin Painter, three athletes are shown in the act of jumping, each holding weights. The central figure (shown here) stands on the mark, the second one is running, and the third is landing on his toes.

The bowl, which dates to 490 BC, was found in Tomb 238 in the Contrada Pezzina necropolis, excavated in the 1980s.
