Tivoli:  Temple of Vesta (1760 etching)

Tivoli: The Temple of Vesta (Piranesi 1760)

The circular temple, dating from the Late Republican period, has been attributed to both Vesta and the Sibyls, although its ancient dedication remains unknown. It had 18 fluted Corinthian columns, of which ten remain, and frieze reliefs also preserved.

Piranesi, in this 1760 drawing, shows the temple set above two levels of ancient vaulted structures, some used as stables in the 18th century.
