Tivoli:  Temple of Vesta (1865 photo)

Tivoli: The Temple of Vesta (Anderson 1865)

The circular temple, dating from the Late Republican period, has been attributed to both Vesta and the Sibyls, although its ancient dedication remains unknown.

This 1865 albumen print by Anderson provides a closeup view of the front of the temple, with the cella or shrine room located behind the row of fluted Corinthian columns, of which ten remain out of an original eighteen. Frieze reliefs may also be seen at top, under the roofline.
