Tivoli:  Temple of Vesta, detail (1682 drawing)

Tivoli: The Temple of Vesta, drawings (Desgodetz 1682)

Dating from the late Roman Republic, the Temple of Vesta is actually unidentified in its dedication. Somewhat smaller than the similar Temple of Hercules Victor in Rome, the round Tivili structure had 18 fluted Corinthian columns, with ten extant.

These drawings are by French architect Antoine Desgodetz (1653–1728). In 1682, he published Les edifices antiques de Rome (Paris), to provide detailed plans, sections, and measurements of the monuments of Rome.
