Rome: Via Appia, 1st century AD tomb (1864-6 photo, BSR Parker Archive)


This tomb, dating from the 1st century AD,  is located on the Appian Way (Via Appia Nova), 5 miles from Rome, near the Sette Bassi and the Piscina of the Aqueducts. The tomb, portrayed in this 1864-6 albumen print. is noted for its fine brickwork (Opus Lateritium).

The photo is from the Parker Collection in the British School of Rome.
