Rome: Via Appia, Vigna Randali Catacomb, menarah (BSR Parker Archive)

On the Appian Way were a number of ancient catacombs for both Christian and Jewish burials.

This albumen print by Parker, taken in 1864-6, shows an inscribed tablet with a menorah or seven-branched candlestick from the Jewish catacombs at Vigna Randanini. This underground burial zone is located near the Christian catacombs of San Sebastian.
