Rome: Temple of Antoninus and Faustina (photo 1857)

Rome: Forum, Temple of Antoninus and Faustina (photo: Ansiglioni Archive 1857)

This well-preserved temple, with ten columns, was dedicated by the Roman Senate to the Empress Faustina, and later to the Emperor Antoninus Pius, who reigned from AD 138-161.

When this photo by Giuliano Ansiglioni was taken in 1857, the stairway up to the pronaos had not yet been excavated. A row of oxcarts may be seen at left.
