Ostia: Casa di Diana seen from Via dei Balconi (photo: Athena Review 2001)

This view shows the House of Diana (Casa di Diana) from the southwest. The street at left is Via dei Balconi, and the street at right is Via di Diana.
Built in the reign of Antoninus Pius (AD 138-161), the house also contains paintings from the 3rd century AD. By the 4th century, its upper stories and balconies had collapsed, and their bricks were used to raise the street level.
