Ostia: House of Cupid and Psyche, plan (I, 14, 5)

Ostia: Plan of the House of Cupid and Psyche (Athena Review Image Archive)

The House of Cupid and Psyche dates to the 2nd century AD, and was rebuilt several times through the mid-4th century. It is constructed of opus mixtum and opus latericium. Several shops were attached on the west side.

The House contains floor mosaics of the highest quality.  A statue of Cupid and Psyche, which stood on a pedestal in the center of a bedroom or cubiculum (room E), gave the house its name when it was first excavated in 1938.
