Ostia: Painting of Chariot 2, Building of the Charioteers (photo: Athena Review 2001)

The Building of the Charioteers is adjacent to the Baths of the Seven Sages. It was built during the first years of the reign of Antoninus Pius (ca. 140 AD).

This image shows one of the two chariot paintings on an interior wall, for which the building is named. This chariot is shown running to the right, and in the hands of the charioteer are the usual symbols of victory, a crown and a palm branch.
