The Thermopolium of Flavus Nicephorus (VIII 16, 7) is shown here, looking across the counter toward its rear room. The site was excavated in 1846 and 1859. According the Fiorelli, the original excavator, the counter originally had two imbedded jars (dolia) to keep food warm. The counter was damaged by bombing in 1943, and only one dolium remains there.

In  the wall are two niches for storage (one visible in image). The site was partly restored in 1950 after WWII bombing damage.
