Pompeii: via dell' Abbondanza, Augusta Concordia Fountain (VII 9, 63)

Pompeii: Augusta Concordia Fountain on via dell' Abbondanza (photo: Athena Review 2003)

This fountain, located in the via dell' Abbondanza (VII 9, 63), has a relief sculpture of the goddess Augusta Concordia. Water issued from her mouth, in an area where the limestone has eroded.

Her cornucopia or horn of plenty is the namesake of the via dell'  Abbondanza, the main commercial street which begins by the Building of Eumachia in the Forum and extends to the eastern end of Pompeii.
